Cheyanne Kane

Cheyanne Kane is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Vigilants. She oversees company strategy and operations and drives Vigilants’ creative vision and project development.

Cheyanne is an energetic and engaging leader who has built a talented team that produces fiercely creative and innovative projects with the highest caliber of artistry.

A dynamic filmmaker, visual storyteller and writer, Cheyanne’s work draws on raw human emotions and realities to shed light on social issues, aiming to inspire, empower and inform audiences.

Cheyanne began her independent filmmaking career at Zero Pictures, helping to shape the company’s structure and storytelling philosophy. She was involved in the development, production and post-production of 16 feature films within three years. As Cheyanne’s creative development broadened, in 2012 she started Vigilants.

A prolific writer with many projects currently in production as well as post-production, Cheyanne wrote and produced the award-winning short My Guardian Angel that leaves viewers with a vision of the existential nature of being human. It was selected for Cannes Film Festival, Short Film Corner and the European Independent Film Festival, among others. Dispossessed, another recent film, provides a stark look into the psychological disintegration of a rape victim, and garnered film festival nominations and awards.

Dr. Jeffrey Wm. Laham

While at the University of Southern California, Dr. Jeffrey Wm. Laham earned three Doctor of Philosophy Majors in the fields of Counseling Psychology, Research Methodology and Design, and Clinical Sociology.

As a psychologist specializing in creativity for the arts, Dr. Laham provides both story-line consulting and authentic character development, while coaching actors, writers, directors and producers from a variety of entertainment companies, including: DreamWorks, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Paramount, The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, William Morris Endeavor, NBC, CBS, ABC, Creative Artists Agency, Time-Warner Inc. and Viacom International Inc.


Kerry Johnston is the Creative Director and Producer for Vigilants Entertainment.

She spearheads creation and production of the company’s highly engaging short and long-form content, including web series, films, documentaries and videos.

Skilled in creating content, Kerry is an expert in research, concept development and coordinating all aspects of the film process and is second-to-none when it comes to interviewing interesting and intriguing people.

With a background in photography and fashion, Kerry was a long-time field producer for Sputnik Entertainment, creating videos, documentaries and interviews for an innovative research firm that forecasts global trends helping brands/organizations prepare for future frontiers. As a member of the Advisory Board, she played a key role in the launch of Sputnik Observatory, an institute dedicated to the study of contemporary culture and cataloging ideas.

Kerry worked with Oscar-nominated filmmakers Sergei Bodrov and Bob M. Young. She has notable expertise managing strategy and submissions to international film festivals and was also a programmer for Slamdance, an artist-led group that discovers cutting edge talent creating work outside of convention.

As project development is a constant at Vigilants, Kerry is always on the lookout for interesting and creative ideas, projects and people to connect with.



David E. Smith is the Founder and CEO of Coast Asset Management, a firm he founded in 1990.  His past experience began at Security Pacific National Bank from 1973 to 1983.  He subsequently joined Oppenheimer and Company where he was a Partner involved in bond arbitrage trading for the firm’s proprietary account.

Coast Asset management has been involved in a wide range of asset management strategies including several hedge funds, fund of hedge funds and structured products.  At its peak, the firm managed several billion dollars of firm and client assets. Coast was, on many, occasions ranked in the top ten hedge funds in terms of risk adjusted returns.  A highlight of its history included the sale of one third of the firm to a prominent Private Equity firm, Summit Partners in ­­­­2005.  In 2012, the firm divested itself of its fund of funds and structured product activities in order to transition to a family office.  In addition to his bond arbitrage trading, Mr. Smith is an active investor in small cap growth companies and has served on the board of several private and public companies.  He has an MBA from the University at Berkeley.


Actress, producer, writer, Caroline Goodall has starred in some of the biggest blockbusters of all time, including twice with Steven Spielberg, as Moira in Hook and Emilie Schindler in Schindler’s List. Other classic starring roles include villainess Krystal in Cliffhanger with Stallone; Dr. Alice in Ridley Scott’s White Squall, Susan Hendler opposite Michael Douglas in Disclosure, and Anne Hathaway’s royal artist mum, Helen, in Princess Diaries 1 and 2; As Producer she is in pre production on upcoming The Bay Of Silence starring Claes Bang (The Square, Girl in the Spider’s Web,); Olga Kurylenko ( Quantum of Solace, Oblivion, Death Of Stalin, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote) Brian Cox ( Churchill, Reds, Bourne Trilogy, Troy). Queen Igraine in The Mists of Avalon (TNT), British PM in Me and Mrs Jones (ITV/PBS), FLOTUS in Chasing Liberty (WB) and Lady Doris Vyner in The Crown; Charlotte Carmel in Bulletproof (SKY). She is married to Italian cinematographer, Nicola Pecorini with whom she has run LA based gemma Productions Inc for the last 24 years and has two children, Gemma and Leone.
